Why Should My Child Join Next Generation ELC?
What kinds of things will you teach my child? What will they learn?
Next Generation ELC believes that children learn through Play & Exploration. This philosophy means that when children are provided with areas and activities that they can explore freely, learning and development happen naturally.
Our educators observe the children as they play and engage in conversation with their peers. From these observations, our educators can see what the children are interested in. When children are interested in a particular subject or topic, they become more engaged, participate for more extended periods and new information is easily absorbed and retained. The educators plan age and developmentally appropriate activities based on the children's interests. These activities focus on all areas of development; language and literacy, math and science concepts, music and movement, visual art, social-emotional skills, fine and gross motor skills. All activities can be modified for each child's individual level and needs.
What foods do you feed my child? Can you accommodate my child's dietary needs?
Next Generation ELC provides breakfast, lunch and afternoon snack. We have a four-week rotating menu that follows the Canadian Food Guide.
Breakfast includes servings from three food groups; lunch consists of all four food groups, and snack contains two. Children are offered milk and water at breakfast and lunch, with only water being offered at snack time.
Most of our food is homemade, including home baked goods, sauces and gravy, and casseroles. Our cook loves to make nutritious and delicious food that the children enjoy.
If your child has dietary restrictions or allergies, we can offer vegetarian options for our meals and try our best to avoid common allergens. Suppose your child requires specialty items such as lactose-free dairy products or Halal, vegan or vegetarian meat replacements. In that case, we ask that parents send these items labelled with your child's name, and we can incorporate them into our meals for your child.
Please note that we are a Nut-Free Facility!!
How do you deal with tantrums and meltdowns?
Next Generation ELC educators guide children's behaviour using the following positive methods:
Prevention: We establish straightforward, easy to understand guidelines and boundaries
Positive Reinforcement: We focus on and give attention to desirable and positive behaviours
Modelling: Educators make sure to use appropriate language, gestures, and behaviours at all times
Intervention: Reminding children of guidelines, expectations and offering choices or solutions
Time outs are never used in our centre. Instead, children may be redirected to another activity or asked to sit with an educator and have a body break to do breathing exercises and other calming activities.
